This calendar shows what is happening in our Zone.  If you wish to have an activity added to this calendar, please email Lisa Dudley at zoneadmin@manukauscouts.org.

It also shows  bookings and available days for Camp Sladdin at Clevedon.

Some Zone Activities listed below are held each year. The following information will give you an idea of what is involved in the regular events:

Kea Sleep Over
The Zone Keas hold one overnight sleepover activity a year. This is to start preparing them for staying away from home when they go to Cubs and Scouts. The Sleepover is usually held at Camp Sladdin in Clevedon Village..

Kea Day and Cub Day - Manukau Zone
Often held in March, this is an opportunity for all Keas (or Cubs) in the Zone to meet at a park and enjoy activities. Each Kea or Cub Pack attending is expected to run an activity base. The Keas or Cubs rotate around the bases every 20 minutes or so. Parent helpers or spare leaders are required to run the bases while the youth members circulate. 
 
Cub Camp - Manukau Zone
Manukau Zone Cubs hold an annual Cub Camp in November each year, Usually about 200 Cubs, 60 leaders and parents attend. It starts on Friday evening and ends at 3pm on Sunday. Each Cub Pack is expected to run one base activity throughout the weekend. (Similar to the Kea or Cub Day below)
 
Founders Day - February 22nd
This is when Scouts in each Scout Group celebrate the birth of their founder Lord Robert Baden Powell in 1857. The event is often held as a picnic on a reserve at a local Scout hall where the full group gathers for games, a party and a birthday cake. Scouting was founded in 1908 in the UK.
 
Raft Race Day - Manukau Zone
One hour to build a raft, and an hour either side of high tide to race. Open to Cubs, Scouts, Venturers, Rovers and Leaders.  Simple rules - you must wear personal flotation devices and you must not push the raft. The course may be at Cockle Bay or Mangere Bridge to suit the tides on the day. No restrictions on materials used. No registration required. Just turn up and have fun safely. 

Scout Sandford Course
A leadership course for the older Scouts and adult Leaders.  Runs over a weekend, it is a full on and very effective leadership training course aimed at giving 12 year old Scouts the skills to become effective Patrol Leaders. 
 
Scout Cossgrove Course
This is an outdoor practical skills course for both Scouts and leaders. It's usually run over a weekend, starting Friday night and finishing about midday Sunday..
 
Venturer Velocity Course
An introductory course for Scouts joining the Venturer Section.  Usually run over a weekend at a Regional Scout campsite. Often held at Waingaro Outdoor camp west of Huntly in the Waikato.
 
Venturer Cooksey Leadership Course
A full on leadership course for the older Venturers. Usually run over a weekend at a Scout campsite by Scout Regional trainers.

Initial Training - Leaders
This is a one day training session for leaders new to SCOUTS or who are retraining to work in another section. It is usually free and covers the basic philosophy of SCOUTS and its programmes. Designed to get the new leader up and running quickly, a course is usually scheduled for each school term and held at a Scout Hall in the Manukau Zone. Leaders are able to travel to neighbouring Zones if they wish and attend courses there.
  
Practical Skills Training - Leaders
This weekend (midday to midday) course is for new leaders and teaches them the basic skills required to teach Keas, Cubs, and Scouts the skills needed for the Bronze and Silver award schemes. Usually held at Camp Sladdin although sometimes run as a night school type session.The main focus is on outdoor skills such as camping, tramping, pioneering, outdoor survival and similar skills.

Zone Annual General Meeting
Usually held at the Howick RSA Club rooms, Wellington St, Howick. Often starts with a dinner (must prebook. Pay at the dinner counter), followed by a Guest Speaker and a short AGM.
